A Little Tease

The Grand Hotel
Working on another post on Palm Beach Chic decors; for now here is a peak at some classic PBC. Nobody does Palm Beach Chic better than Draper/Varney; in my humble opinion...... if you have been here before you already knew that. Seriously, they were doing Lilly before Lilly. In his book Mr. Color there are a myriad of PBC style rooms. While not all of these are in Florida at one glance you experience the Palm Beach Chicness; makes me giddy all over. If it makes you want to barf you may not want to scale down.... just saying.

Above image is for my friend Jenn @ The Pink Pagoda who loves her some pink & blue. Love the cane patterned rug.

More this week on my weakness for Palm Beach Chic.

The Mother of Color

Random musings on Dorothy Draper, Carleton Varney + a favorite fabric.

Watercolor Rendering of Waikiki Sheraton
The Waikiki Sheraton was a project of Carleton Varney's with strong influences obvious from his mentor Dorothy Draper.
Ben Moore Draper Collection

I love Dorothy Draper & all her sensibility of color. Wrote about my love for her earlier. I believe her to be the Mother of Color so figure she is worth a "shout out" here @ MD. Love this collection of colors from Ben Moore done for a museum tribute of Dorothy.

Love that her protege Carleton Varney is still out & about kicking it up with all his technicolor. Am itching to attend the Dorothy Draper Decorating School @ the Greenbrier. So hope they have it again next year. Oh what fun it would be to take a class with Mr. Color himself; Carleton Varney. Can only imagine the drama of his classes & stories he can tell.

Growing Wild by CV
I am over the moon at the re-release of this Carleton Varney favorite; Growing Wild. It is such a flash back for me & have plans to use it immediately. Be still my heart. Happy, happy, happy!

In The Pink

Dorothy Draper for me is the quintessential Queen of Color. I mean come on have you seen the Greenbrier Hotel??? Divine! Darling Dorothy put the "p" in pink. She is "In the Pink" forever.

Nothing says "Welcome" like this staircase.

I'll always put in one controversial item, it makes people talk.

She is clearly the rock star of black & white. Think Steven Tyler, Tommy Lee (secret- I have a huge crush on him...) or Mick.

Ain't she Cute? Love her

The Drab Age is over. Color is coming into its own again. Until very recently people were literally scared out of their wits by color. Perhaps this was a hangover from our Puritan ancestors. But whatever the reason, brown, grays and neutrals were the only shades considered 'safe.' Now we know that lovely, clear colors have a vital effect on our mental happiness. Modern doctors and psychiatrists are convinced of this!

Rock on Dorothy, Rock on.
